Curran launches Pobail Scoil Iosolde’s Intercultural Week in Palmerstown
Students and Teachers in Pobail Scoil Iosolde in Palmerstown were celebrating Intercultural Week at their school this week and invited Minister of State for Integration and local Fianna Fáil T.D. John Curran to launch their celebrations.
Speaking to students at Pobail Scoil Iosolde Minister Curran said: “Today’s classrooms look very different to when I went to school in Moyle Park College in Clondalkin many years ago. It is fantastic to see so many diverse cultures and traditions being shared in our school communities today.
“In Pobail Scoil Iosolde there are 16 nations from around the world attending school. Some of these include Angola, Ethiopia, India, Iraq, Lithuania, Mauritius, Nigeria, The Philippines, Poland, Pakistan, Romania, Slovakia, South Africa, The United Kingdom and Zimbabwe.
“Learning about other people’s lives, traditions and cultures enriches all of us and helps us appreciate our own traditions and way of life in Ireland. As we prepare to celebrate Saint Patrick ’s Day next week we remember how proud we are to be Irish and everything that is involved with being Irish.
“Many of the international students are fluent in three to four languages; this is an inspiration to Irish Students studying foreign languages in our schools.
“I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone involved in Inter-Cultural Week every success with all their activities,” concluded Minister Curran
